SCID is a side project of better known bands Vaginal Incest and Embedded. The band contact says it resides in Bielefeld although we are not fooled by such assumptions since we know that this city does not really exists. It’s just a illusory city that THEY want us to think exist. Probably they make illegal experiments on cloning small Hitlers or dissecting hadicapped persons. Who knows. Better not to talk too much about such matters, it can be dangerous. Even if we’re talking about Brutal Death, this time we’re quite far from the standards of ice cold, soulless, mechanic American Brutal Death that Unmatched Brutality has prepared us for. The vocals of singer Rainer are totally suine, grating like old crusty Chris Barnes, yet the music has lots of interesting variations, with some chord progressions and not just concatenated ice block riffs a la Suffocation. Even the drums are not standard blastbeat/mid tempo, and you even get some ettempt at melody in some dissonant distant riff or principles or solos. I like it pretty much even though I won’t probably rate it as first class brutality. I read that this album is just a collection of two promo Eps, and well there is a subtle difference between the first and second part of the disc as probably the second (song 7 and after) is a bit more brutal and devoid of guitarist “ideas”. I kinda like this kind of music straighter and heavier so I like these songs a bit better (didn’t surprise me they’re one year older indeed). If you’re into Brutal Death with a somewhat more traditional, European approach this is really an interesting band. You got no slam dance breakdowns whatsoever, just Death Metal made heavier and more brutal instead of being encased in a genre which is probably beginning to reheat itself a bit too much lately, I can’t really recall any particular band becouse while the structures could be from some late 90’s Czech band, the sheer brutality it has is totally ’00s, also really sublime recording, real neat. No lyrics inside this time, but the approach seem to be about violent pornography, rape and shit like that. The cover is simple, being a guy with shrinkwrap tighed around the face (like Rotten Sound), yet at last for once we don’t have Tales from Uranus cartoons, Zig art or Internet pictures.
I am toatlly, totally sure the ghost track at the end if a cover of some very famous song I cannot identify at the moment, I tried to sing it along in my mind but cannot remember what is it, help!

Ingurgitate is another Brutal Death Metal band from Texas. I was submerged by TXDM bands when Corpsegristle was still a label supporting the whole Texas underground and I remember having received lots of records by bands such as Viral Load, Prophecy, Devourment, Putrilage, Me-At-Us etc. at the time. While I was not a huge fan of that scene, I must admit some of them pierced the screen, such as Devourment, while others were hopelessly mediocre, but generally the reciprocal support they had was astounding (same goes for the earlier Brazilian bands like Ophiolatry, Ancestral Malediction etc. but that’s another story). So here again I have a TXDM band on my shelf for review. Ingurgitate is rather Ok I think, it’s definitely not original but it plays heavy Brutal Death with all the aspects arranged in the right way. Very good production, crushing guitar sound a la Skinless with similar earth shoving breakdown riffs, guttural vocals, killer drumwork and a good dose of “power slams”. I really hated the first days of this slam style like the debut Fleshgrind, Lividity, Internal Bleeding etc but now that the sound has been refined and redefined (by Skinless, maybe?) I am now able to catch its meaning. The musicianship has also increased a lot since the early days of this scene so here we have flawless arrangements and a sound definitely more rounded and complex. You also have some atypical turns of more traditional metal, such as melodic classical solos, or some riffs (like the very first one) which are not just derived from the classic Suffocation power riffs, but more from a classic Metal mindset. Also. There are two guests on backing vocals in this album, plus Zig’s artwork, Majewski’s inner art etc etc. These Texan releases sometimes sould like total collaborative efforts, not to mention the drummer Dobber was also previously playing in Sect of Execration and Viral Load, Chris in Devourment etc. and probably brought some of their style along as well. The layout of the booklet is a complete ripoff of denek’s style (Lacerated Enemy) seems like even the fonts are identical, and also the colors sued etc. But then again maybe this is just the modern Death way. Nothing new nor totally impressive on the side of blistering brutality, but some of the heaviest, slower grinding parts are real juicy.

The tracks of Spermswamp here are in my opinion even better than the ones I heard on their split with Rigor Mortis. Much less Cock & Ball Torture bullodzering based on pure force and heaviness, and much more savage and lo-fi. The sound of the strings is totally metallic, and the vocals have a total insane range that go from throat clearing cackles to insanle blurs, with several effects that change continuously, it’s complete chaos! Here we have totally fresh porno gore songs with lots of variety, influences from techno-harcore-trance music excellently arranged, samples, experiments with frequencies and keyboard fx a go go. The sound is completely demo but it sounds real great to me. I hope they will be able to turn back and take some more of this shit into their new sound. Freaky and sick! The farts and tuba sounds in “Dierrhoeic Polka” are slacking fun!

The sound of Radikalis Amputacio is even more chaotic and crusty, completely muffled and garageish, even if the music is more oriented towards Brutal Death than goregrind and therfore a bit more human. Here you have a couple of funny intros (one sounds like a Japanese version of “Yakee Doodle”) and sludgy riffs a la Malignancy with some good blasts of total gore insanity. I really don’t like the spoken vocals that sometimes drop in at all, and the main problem here is probably the drums which are definitely too rigid and basic. Were they attepting to make total sludge gore stuff it would have fitted but since there is some attept here at building music a little more skill would have been important. We’re in the middle gorund between low budged brutal death and goregrind, but in a not very efficacious way. I definitely expect some progression here.

Plasma from Germany is almost a cult name in the sewage Goregrind underground. They play sick, downtuned, crunchy goregrind in the vein of very early Cock & Ball Torture, but even more sludgy and dirty. The vocals have that unnatural harmonizer distortion that makes it so liquid it recalls a bit of Tumour or Urine Festival, but while impossible to understand it does still sound liek vocals and not boiling pudding. The strength of this band resides in the slow, ground digging power chords, and here a little better sound on the guitars would maybe have helped making it even more humid and claustrophobic. However all this is purely enjoyable stuff, with basic, martial drumming and a sporadic acceleration to break up the pace. Contrary to most bands, the music seems to be released when it becomes slower, not the contrary. What I absolutely love of the underground goregrind scene today is that while Brutal Metal bands keep looking for the better cover art and the most technical riffs and drum tempos, here everything is just made for the fun of it, you still have flyers, fanzines etc, much like Death Metal was in the early 90’s. I have the impression this is the scene where the underground spirit lifted. There are two typos ina 3 page booklet with no more than 50 words, and that’s totally cool to me, total early South American spirit. Even the title of the split is missing a “to” to be grammatically correct. Ah! Great! The packaging is abysmal, just 3 pictures taken from the internet with a couple of horrible fonts, but I like the essence.

I am afraid I had enough of Ultra Vomit this year for what concerns hilarous gore grind, but Ultra Vomit is also a lot heavier than Gronibard and probably more classic ’00 goregrind, while apart from the choruses these tracks sound a bit like a cross of old school Death and more modern stuff (not to mention this split is older than “M. Patate”. The music is still much into experimentation, with some funny moments a la Macabre, but also strong moments of good music, just messed up and cut with inserts of guitar schizopheria or drunk choruses. This up and down of good music and fun-made arrangements with Mickey Mouse vocals has started to bore me I must confess. If they stripped these tracks from all the bollocks, we might have solid death/goregrind shit, but I don’t think listening to the same fun jokes more than once still mainatins the same effectiveness. The cover of this Cd is still by the fun super splatter artist Jake of Tales from Uranus (does he respond to any of your emails? I think I have written him at least a dozen times but never got a reply). A bit colorful but totally fits the atmosphere of old 70’s horror comics with a modern interpretation.
