DEMONS AND WIZARDS (USA/Fl): s/t 1999 Steamhammer
Is this IRON MAIDEN? One of the worst attempt at Epic metal, although the guy that is writing is not the most able to rate this shit, the vocals are below average even for this inferior music (Heavy Metal). But maybe the worst of all is the guitars which are so basic, so banal, that are not even able to get the funny, pompous atmosphere the subhumans which listen to this music find recharging. Some weak choirs try to fill in the gaps but this disc is bad even for its environment.DECEMBER WOLVES (USA/Ma): “Completely Dehumanized” Cd 2000 Wicked World
Something that stands between new school something (generically metal?) and another 10 genres, DECEMBER WOLVES personally hardly accomplish anything concrete in my guts. The vocals could be catalogued as Black Metal shrieks while the music stays on the fast yet somewhat original line. There’s thrash, the modern 90’s era one, and then something different yet hardly identifiable which stands vaguely Blackish in false harmonics and melodies and then again the new school imprint remains, maybe the flawless production or the samplings and clear cut guitar tormenting. I think it’s hard to define you probably should check em by yourself before judging, but actually on me they just stir not much attention.DECAPITATED (Pol): “Winds of Creation” Cd 2000 Wicked World
Don’t hate me but I had constantly, irrevocably lost a lot of interest in the latest years of Earache releases, especially ever since they changed their logo to a swirling italic that could easily fit a famous Soda label. And my expectation were rather lethargic when I put this CD on in my office, when my colleagues were out for dinner… and what the fuck. My lips curled to a grin as my speakers start to pour out this premium, invigorating nectar. My eyes popped out of their sockets when listening to this album, especially when I got to know there are guys as young as 16 years in the band. Absolutely Death Metal in soul and flesh, DECAPITATED follow my same school of thought. Pound your instrument to pieces, play as technical as you can while leaving no space to melody nor useless masturbations. Shove your vocals down your guts and gargle as deep as you can. DECAPITATED, I wonder how the fuck I could have ignored this band until now. The sound in the disc is perfect, while still100% human and not synthetic as that of BROKEN HOPE (“Loathing” era) or label mates HATE ETERNAL, with a hair raising compression, guttural lower than low grunts, simple but straight to the point solos, a hammering, constant, force and an almost VADER like flow. The last track is a SLAYER cover. Brutal as the rest of the disc.DEAD SILENT SLUMBER (Swe): “Entombed in the Midnight Hour” Cd 1999 Hammerheart
This shitty disc belongs pretty precisely into that awful cauldron of gothic/blackish dementia w
hich I never could bear. This kind of music bore me in a different way than an average, easily uncared for weak mosquito-guitar penguin metal, it just get on my nerves, into them, stretching and stinging my tendrils. The (how original) keyboards follow precisely the rather basic guitar work, the whole thing saturated by a rather standard hysterical screaming tedium. And oh, shit, the worst is when the guy sings in an heavy-metallish clean pompous way between one keyboard swirl and another. Gh…DEAD (Ger): “V.I.P.” Cd 1998 Poserslaughter
Tracklist
1 - First Indications of... Evil Gogo Babe From Outer Space 2 - Young, Free and Shameless 3 - V.I.P. 4 - Glamorous Teen-Specialist 5 - In Gang bang City 6 - Heavenly Whipping Queen 7 - Orgasm Through Sleazy Vibes 8 - Chew-in-cum (Sperm-int Mix) 9 - Sweet Turbo Stench 10 - Tramal 25 mgAbsolutely brilliant, DEAD is definitely my favourite German band, at least it was as this CD is their swansong before splitting up. So sick, slow anddisgusting in every corner you might eye it, one can’t but bow to such genuine repulsive filth. The guitars in the first track whine and twirl around a out
of the field vocals which depicts some sort of venereal disease. The rest of the disc portraits dedicated, pristine gore music much in the vein of old
IMPETIGO, ABSCESS or GUT. The band swanks its very peculiar kind of classy vulgarity which is the standpoint for the greatest of Death Gore bands such as
the absolute masters, AUTOPSY. Not for everybody, one has to be mentally deviated to like DEAD, or somewhat in tune with this music which is the quintessence
of bad taste, well you can guess this from the very cover which shows a whore dressed like it was pulled out of the Clockwork Orange sitting legs spread on a
transparent armchair. Lots of spoken vocal interludes plunge in and out this embodiment of perversity. Absolute masterpiece.
CORVUS CORAX (USA/Wa): “The Atavistic Triad” Cd 2000 Dark Symphonies
Kinda choral, orchestral black metal with lots of keyboards and gothic-like soundscapes. Shifting from silly heavy metal riffs to heavily keyboard infestedsoundtracks which have a fair feel of fantasy due to flutes and other organ-like sonorities. I am not the most talented to describe this music but 80%
evolves in slow, moody shit with blowing wind and stuff, while the rest is made up of some pseudo-aggressive metal rides. All in all, I can’t find anything
interesting in it.
CONSOLATION (Hol): “Stahlplaat” Cd 1998 Displeased
Of Grindcore, they have nothing. This foreword to confute band’s claim to play intense grind/death. The album lyrics are interconnected to create a single, concept release which unveil the story of a sort of Wizard of Oz gang which is set out to destroy human life. The gang gets killed by cops but live on as immortals or something like that. Actually the music is good. Intense, varied and often moving through the realms of different genres with invisible steps, back and forth to black and death to some low class melodic traits. Sometimes the band actually reach the fast, gut wrenching acceleration of good class Death Metal, although they just lack of some soul. Quite unlike any bands I know yet very like to all of them, CONSOLATION is a band which I should write down in my list or I’ll forget it quite soon.
