  • ROOTTENNESS (Mex): “Inhuman Ways of Depravity” Cd 2001 Emerald City

    RECENSORE: Unknown

    VOTO: 7,00/10

    DURATA:

    Tracklist

    1) Hatred 2) Seduced by a Fecal Freak 3) Grotesque Obsession for Penetrations 4) Ruptures of Pleats in a Carbonized Cunt 5) Rejoice in 6) Just a Hole to be Fucked 7) Stabbed and Choked by an Erection 8) Tea Time 9) Inhuman Ways of Depravity

“Inhuman Ways” is the second ROTTENNESS release, again on the Mexican label Emerald City that is also releasing BLOODREAPING (Project featuring Anttimo of DISGORGE and RAVAGER). One thing to laud about ROTTENNESS is its total straight unsubtlety and expurging of anything that’s not strictly Death Metal. They might not have all the elements to be an ultimate DM band with capital “U”, but don’t show any weak spots either. For a rough idea you should picture MORTICIAN, with their simple, heavily crunchy guitars, but adding add a dextrous, fast drummer, and throwing in some classical Death Metal parts in between. The band likes a lot to crack the songs in the middle to throw in some slams a la GODLESS TRUTH in which the singer grunts over a single basic super-stopped note (you know what I mean the “chuggha, chug chugga” syndrome), yet it’s the part that I possibly find less interesting in an otherwise real neat work. Brutish Death with its good share of pornography and explicit gore (hey this is Mexican stuff, could it be otherwise considering they have been treating us so well thus far??), ROTTENNESS breaths and grunts heavily its porngore-inspired violence that wraps up with a good MORTICIAN cover in the end.
  • REGURGITATION (Swe): “Carnivorous Erection” Cd 2000 Relapse

    Tracklist

    1) The pulsating Feast 2) Domination through Mutilation 3) Escort Service of the Dead 4) Obscene Body Slayings 5) Fecal Freak 6) Humiliated in your own Blood 7) Just another Stillborn 8) Parade of the decapitated Midgets 9) Ruptured Remains in a Doggybag 10) Copious Head Carnage 11) Carnivorous Erection 12) Relentless Pursuit of rotting Flesh 13) Swallow the human Filth 14) Dismantle the Afterbirth 15) Choked in Shit 16) Funeral Genocide 17) Rancid Head of Splatter 18) Rage against Humanity 19) to boil a Corpse 20) Bloody Pile of Human Waste 21) Drenched in Cattleblood 22) Carbonated Death 23) Skull of Shit and Sludge 24) Desperate Need for Violation 25) 37 Stabwounds 26) Vomified (Regurgitated to the Core) 27) Headless she died 28) Breath like rotten Meat 29) I wanna kill 30) Clawhammer Castration 31) Festering Embryonic Vomit 32) Smeared with bloodmixed Semen 33) You're about to fuckin' die 34) Stinking Genital Warts 35) Pyronecrobestiality 36) Self-Disembowelment 37) Savage Gorewhore 38) The Combustion and Consumption of pyorrheic Waste

From the very first second, “Carnivorous Erection” unbridles a blur of goregrinding bastard gore holocaust, just like the classic “Effortless Regurgitation of Bright Red Blood” (1994 Lowland), nothing subtle about this. What might not appear as obvious is the strong turn their approach to goregrind has taken during their temporary rest. This new work is way more refined, has much more consistency and compared to the so-so split with DEAD a few years ago, even more sheer, crusty raw power. Dammit, it is really a relentless fury of natural elements, when most other grind bands tend to have short blasts and more or less slower bridges, RGTE knows how to stretch the grind flurry three times more, taking you to the limit of pressure without falling into a loose noise puree, and yet keeping the intensity high even in the crustier, moshy parts. There are 38 splatter songs (one more than “Effortless”) so you have plenty to listen and digest their new face. Now after all of my rants about their “evolution” doesn’t mean RGTE has slowed down or become “technical” or “mature” (eh) they just added the factor of struture and a huge production to make something that stands on par with “Effortless” without sounding exactly the same (I still like equally both Cds). I guess playing minimalistic splatter goregrind for over ten years leads you to rethink about your band in one way or another at a certain point. I just wish CARCASS had the same spirit, fucking faggots, I have to remember to poo on my “Heartwork” Lp once more. Fucking gay album. Talking about CARCASS If “Vomified (Regurgitatet to the Core)” is not a cover (“Pyosisified”) then its the biggest ripoff I have heard thus far, ah ah.
  • MESRINE (Can): “Going to the Morgue” Cd 2000 Murder

    RECENSORE: Unknown

    VOTO: 7,00/10

    DURATA:

MESRINE is a Canadian grindcore band that features ex-DAHMER members. Just like DAHMER, the whole lyric department is dedicated to serial killers, if you read the tracklist below, all of the songs but the ROT cover (they have a split 7” out with them by the way) feature bear names of serial killers. I don’t speak a single word of fucking French (what a horrible language by the way) but cosidering it’s a derivation of latin I could glimpse a good 70% of the lyrics, which are basically bios of the relative criminal. Musically there’s nothing Death Metal about MESRINE, they’re pure grindcore with crazy vocals, the kind of screams that make your throat ache after a gig, completely generated by the esophagus, just barely modulated (I guess the lyrics would be difficult to follow in any case). I kinda like the simple, yet not banal music that this band produces, if we can associate the word “brutal” with the grindcore genre, this would fit rather well the idea I think, they actually remind a bit of the aforementioned ROT although a step more structured, not as minimalistic as the renown brazilian band. The most purely grind band of the last few pages for sure, that kind of old school grind that brings me back to the days of SPAZZTIC BLURR and SORE THROAT. It’s something you can better digest if you’re really into untainted grindcore.
  • MELANCHOLY PESSIMISM (Cze): “Evil Planet” Cd 2000 Epidemie

    RECENSORE: Unknown

    VOTO: 7,50/10

    DURATA:

    Tracklist

    1) Intro 2) Violation Of The Child 3) Thank You Go Away 4) One From Ways To The Hell 5) Bloody Gold 6) Song Of Surly Fellow 7) As In Trap 8) You Can But Needn't 9) Evil Planet 10) The Well 11) Mass Suicidal Party 12) Endless Way Of Soul 13) Battery 14) Grind Hop Shit

MELANCHOLY PESSIMISM is a band to be taken quite seriously, from every angle you watch it. The inner booklet contains images of human cruelty so vivid and real they wrap a weight around your dry throat. The lyrics too are quite a good compromise between AGATHOCLES, MAN IS THE BASTARD, VIOLENT HEADACHE and LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY. The music too, follows the claustrophobia of an inescapable truth, the cruelty and waste that human greed is doing to our planet. Substantially brutal, solid, chunky Death Metal with powerful vocals, this Cd winning spots might possibly be the interesting, complex guitarwork, somewhat reminiscent of OBSCENITY in consistency and thickness and INTERVALLE BIZARRE/DYING FETUS/BASTARD SAINTS for the dissonant, vibrating rhytmic virtuosisms; to continue on the guitars, these guys really know how to handle their guns, the solos are hyper scholastic even if I have spotted two or three “rock” tempos in excess (I am not a real fan of psychedelia and 70’s), but that’s the price you pay when you want to lose too much time trying to be different. Good, super-precise is also the drummer although he possibly needs to blast a bit faster when the pace gets hot. No complains on the production, either, balanced and clean, it gives the right depth to every piece of the set. Talking about the bad things, one thing that could be and must be definitely improved is their lyrics. They’re quite interesting and effective, so full of “pain”, yet grammar and syntax are not excellent at all, I wonder why they can’t just hand them to some English friend for supervision before going to studio, I sometimes find them difficult to follow just due to so many errors. Contrarily to what I was complaining in CEREBRAL TURBULENCY’s review this is a Cd that’s really vibrating with life, constantly evolving yet keeping it brutal and innovative all through the end, be it in the guitars, the vocals, the tempos. I just wish I could esclude song number 6 and 8 from the Cd, the rest is excellent, but these songs suck. I guess that’s excessively experimentation even for me (I have a problem with clean vocals). In short, I think this band has reached a good maturity and consistence yet they should get rid of some of these mosh riffs to be a total bullet in the chest.
  • DEADBODIESEVERYWHERE (US/Ca): “s/t” Cd 1999 Death Vomit

    RECENSORE: Unknown

    VOTO: 7,00/10

    DURATA:

    Tracklist

    1) Black Cloud 2) Full Body Cast 3) Punch The Clock 4) Action Packer 5) Sloth 6) Karmassacre 7) Waste Of Skin 8) Less A Man 9) Chop Shop 10) Pest Control 11) Neckbrace 12) Henry'S Revenge 13) Earache

This one might easily be the most totally schizoid grindcore I have heard in years. I totally hate this sort of high shrill wails (see LENG TCH’E) yet I sincerely admit the music DBE plays is fucking innovative in its own genre, thrashing to the ground every structure and formality that is starting to stagnate even in the primal fury of the grind genre. The band has some crude, sudden turns in the music which remind a bit of DISEMBOWELMENT or CEPHALIC CARNAGE, no need to add this might have been Headfucker’s number one choice if the label was still intact, with its stubborn, caustic sense of humour and its uncontrolled spasms of violence. I haven’t read the lyrics but I bet they talk of smoke at least in one line (they’re shaved and play grind after all). There is not much more to add, if in your grindminded attitude there is much space for experimental divagations and typical ultracore shouts, this is a must, especially if you have been looking for a somewhat different approach. Gargle. For some reason I tend to be more into splatter pathogrind than this kind of schizopherinia. I would like to end the review with another nice controversial quote from the band from Jellobean: “Metal will never be that big. Wanna know why? ‘Cos this country is so afraid of giving angry white guys any sort of real power, except for goofy wrestlers in spandex. It’s another backlashing of the whole EO thing. At least, that’s what this weirdo 800 line customer of ours from Alabama told me after I explained to him that Graveland will not be joining the next Family Values tour.”.

PS: I read the lyrics. They’re less stupid than what I thought indeed, kinda Benumb in style you know, lots of problems, lots of people pissed off and trying to solve things by shouting on top of the lungs on a stage where the only people that’s attending is already of your own opinion.
  • CEREBRAL TURBULENCY (Cze): “Impenetrable” Cd 2001 Khaaranu

    RECENSORE: Unknown

    VOTO: 6,70/10

    DURATA:

    Tracklist

    1) Feeble Minds Of The Nation 2) Different World 3) Yes! Legitimate 4) Same Choices 5) Life Is About Knowledge 6) My Inner Mate 7) Fear Of Indifference 8) The Best In The End 9) You Are Your Own Limit 10) Throw Your Mask Away 11) Harsh Future 12) Adios A Las Corridas 13) Frenzied Imagination 14) Don't Let Her Consume! 15) Frenzied Imagination 16) Loss Of Identity 17) Brutes And Animals 18) Development 19) You're A Poor Wretch 20) Kokos 21) Harmless Citizen 22) Feeling Of Blame 23) We Are Also People 24) Clean-Shaven Brains 25) The More The Higher 26) Suicide

It is not what I consider a very good sign when after 2 full plays I still have to recall one single riff from an album. CEREBRAL TURBULENCY plays some sort of fast Hardcore/grind/death with a good, crystalline production, some grinding bursts in the right spots and a good balance of different vocals, ranging from hyper-pitch-shifted goregrind to a sort of shouted growl a la latest BRUTAL TRUTH that really does the trick. With this last band maybe CT have the greatest affinity, especially when we talk about the hybrid grind/HC works of “Kill Trend Suicide”, then we might throw in some of the latest NAPALM DEATH on the guitar influences, and both of them on the lyrical dept that quite fittingly talk about socio-political themes. Forceful, sure, powerful and stout and with the right outbursts or grindcore rage when the music gets too claustrophobic (something very latest NAPALM DEATH aren’t very excellent at) but despite the structures are quite impeccable, one has to admit this Cd becomes completely predictable after 5 minutes. It is really something that doesn’t bother me excessively on the average, especially when music is so competently arranged but, well, if we exclude the great short “Life is About Knowledge”, which is basically a wall of harmonized noise, there is nothing really that keeps the interest high on the long run, could be defined as the REGORGE of grind/core (see review), yet the music is so solid you can’t really rate it any lower.

BLOODSHED DIVINE (US/La): “Summoned to the Ancient Dawn” Cd 2000 Largactyl

I really can’t recall how I got this BLOODSHED DIVINE Cd on my desk but it was in my review pile so here are my comments about it. Well, I shall start prefacing this is a one man band and the Cd itself is just a repress of the band’s two first demos, titled respectively “Summoned” and you guessed it, “To the Ancient Dawn”. That’s, more or less all I have to say. The music itself has been described as phenomenal and outstanding blend of Death and Black metal. What I can hear here is a pathetic attempt at playing the drums (really you should hear how bad they are, never heard anything so lame) that really destroys almost every attempt to prduce a good song. The vocals are ok, you know, it shifts from cold BM to doomish Death Metal from time to time, but in neither of the two genres it excels in any way. It has been quite some time since I heard anything so forgettable and mediocre, but there is nothing interesting to add about it , very forgettable and featuring the worst drums ever. That’s a record I guess. Not a huge shit but nothing I would care to listen again either.
