    1 - Eternal Darkness

The band has been around since forever, with one of the most unquenchable fires for Dark/Death Metal burning deep within this genre’s history. I got to know them some years ago with Wild Rags!, at the time of their “Impending Doom” tape, but dammit, they never stopped one single day to impress me. If I have to signal a band which has THE right style I would point at SADISTIC INTENT, no doubt, they are able to accomplish everything that every black metal band strives for, without the use of screeching squeaking vocals or clownish makeup. Their songs are a poetic weave of Satanic Death Metal and sheer Obscurity in its highest forms. They don’t really lose time in useless guitar evolutions or hyperblasting drumbeats, it’s one of those few rare bands (just like INCANTATION) which has so much class and style that every song they compose is a fucking ultimate classic, even with 3 or 4 notes per riff. This “Eternal Darkness” is also memorable, characterized by spectral, demonic vocals and a distortion as eerie as it is heavy, almost distorted a la old GRAVE. Should be a lesson to lots of modern bands, you don’t really need anything but the right inspiration to create great songs like this one. Limited to 1000 copies.

Little can be said on these songs that have not been said under the review of “Opuss(sy) IV”, CBT continue to be the most stylish of all the actual Goregrind bands, be them German or not. From the release of the much crustier “Cocktales” CBT has undergone a constant change in perfecting their artwork and unique style, neat, almost aseptycal yet terribly asphyxiating. Images of fetish sex, latex and spermsoaked whores permeate this music, I really have no problem in stating that CBT is really the only rightful heir to GUT (if you look on the cover, the logo on the right bottom is CBT’s but drawed after GUT’s old one eheh). Just like them , they have the impossible bad taste of comntemplating Porn and Grind, though CBT are possibly even more obsessively sex-oriented. You know the rest: double vocals that combine froggish burps and harmonized grunts, mid paced rockish goregrind with some burst of grind blasts, and lot of class. To sum it up, they close their side with a cover of MUCUPURULENT adapted to their unique style. I am a real fan of this band dammit. Ep comes in sperm white wax.

When you spin a LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY release, you know what you have to be prepared for: utter destruction. Just like my other favorite LYMPHATIC PHLEGM, LDOH cuts the limits of noise with a barrage of gore/grind which really shreds every decency. This is really something beyond grind, it’s the extreme limit of what can be called music or noise. The sound is murky but brutal and of sheer impact, the songs short and to the point, with impossibly dehumanized vocals, and horridly downtuned guitars. I really believe LDOH are one of the heaviest bands on the planet today, indulging in the excesses of all that is grind and crossing every conception of ultra-violence, totally uncontrolled, infintely fast and complex to the point you’re stunned after the short duration of the Ep. The music that bursts from the is a mass of pain, intolerance, hate: if that was their intention to show you the worst end this planet could fall, they succeeded at it.
  • THE BERZERKER (Aus): “Dissimulate” Cd 2002 Earache

    1) Disregard 2) Failure 3) The Principles and Practices of Embalming 4) No One Wins 5) Death Reveals 6) Compromise 7) Betrayal 8) Last mistake 9) Painless 10) Pure Hatred 11) Paradox 12) Adandonment 13) Corporal Jigsore Quandary (Carcass)

I first got into the electronic’s exploit in heavy music with bands like Earache’s FUDGE TUNNEL, ULTRAVIOLENCE and GODFLESH, so I think the label is rather versed to experiment with this kind of extreme, digital grind hybrid. To me, the dehumanized, synthetic feel of samples and drum machine added a nice cold vibe to the music, never been a Metal defender, if you read my reviews so far, you might have got it by now. Then a few years ago I found out that a new meaning was applied to the term “Hard Core”, which until then I associated with bands like 7 Seconds, Slapshot or Insted. It was indeed a new frontier of the underground which was developing in the Dutch grisly discos, among LSD intoxicated DJs, together with its variations like gabber etc, which I found interesting but not necessarily worth spending one dollar on. Can’t tell the exact reason but I can’t think of spending money on sampled/cyber/digital music. It’s Ok stuff to hear by me, but only as far as it comes out of a dubbed tape, a CDr or some huge speaker at a rave party. It sounds like cheap music that everyone can compose given the right time. THE BERZERKER gave me the same impression, to be Ok but not really something to spend money on. I admit that out of many hybrids, the music these Australian masked men make is more than Ok, arranged in a way that even this impossibly fake drum machine blasting all through sounds reasonable. It’s more or less like hearing ATARI TEENAGE RIOT (remember their song with SLAYER?) bases with a good, fast grind/death construction coating all over. If you erase these percussions which are the “distinguising” part of the music, what is left is more than good, fast and furious music, with good double vocals and all. I just can’t enter the right spirit of this technobeats that make even LIBIDO AIRBAG sound genuine. I guess I am not the right ground for experimentation sometimes. Hyperfast grind/death hybrid ten feet above other losers like AVULSED’s “Cybergore” experiment, or Diehard’s CYBORG horrid debut, yet I might need some more time to swallow it, I really have no clear ideas so far… what I am sure the CARCASS cover in the end doesnt sound convincing AT ALL…
  • LUNARIS (Nor): “…The Infinite” Cd 2002 Earache

Bad vocals, keyboards, members of borknagar (notice the lowercase B), and some new wave shit sprayed all over. There is enough to make me vomit. I cannot really conceive how somebody can even think to like something like… like…”this”.
  • HATE ETERNAL (USA/Fl): “King of All Kings” Cd 2002 Earache

    RECENSORE: Unknown

    VOTO: 8,00/10

    Tracklist

    1) Our Beckoning 2) King Of All Kings 3) The Obscure Terror 4) Servants Of The Gods 5) Beyond Redemption 6) Born By Fire 7) Chants In Declaration 8) Rising Legions Of Black 9) In Spirit (The Power Of Mana) 10) Powers That Be

HATE ETERNAL finally delievered the goods. I wasn’t as impressed by HATE ETERNAL’s debut as much as I was from the demo tracks, mainly becouse I didn’t notice all the savage, multi-vocals super intricate explosion of energy that made their first material so particular. Be it the overproduction or just the straighter construction of the tracks, but despite the evident speed and energy, it just had not the magic that, fuck, is really a concussive in your face deflagration in this new “King of All Kings”. If you thought their old one was technical and intricate, try to hear a minute from this album becouse it is really something that will take you months to study and analyze, so many different things are pressed in slightly more than 30 minutes. Think of ABHORRENCE, OPHIOLATRY and CENTURIAN’s latest and add all the technical skill of three undisputed masters like Erik, Jared and Derek and a score of ideas and turns to make everything as varied as you can stand. I really freak for these multi-layered vocals, and these intricate texture of riffs. Rutan’s classic soloing we got used with in Morbid Angel can be heard in some songs, as are some of the obsessive, punitive riffs back from the debut. Still fast and violent as “Conquering the Throne”, yet with much, much more chemistry and consinstency, HATE ETERNAL has finally found its way on the same level of other new breeds of Death Metal monsters like KRISIUN, ANGEL CORPSE, or CENTURIAN. Total killer stuff, this is the kind of Death Metal that I adore from this last decade after that period of slumber that fell between the old and new generation. If I were to list some albums from the new wave that should be really taken as examples of coherence and headstrong resolution, HATE ETERNAL’s “King of All Kings” would surely hold a good position.
  • ATRAX MORGUE feat. MORDER MACHINE (Ita): “DeathShow” Cd 1998 Slaughter

Slooww, suicidal noise. Imagine a distorted bass picking an E note that drags forever, now add loops to this, loops of whispers that have a strict harmonizer effect, sampled moans of agony, and a droning percussion consisting of one single beat that vibrates as if it was a hammer against a huge membrane of black rubber. Now imagine that sometimes all that gets misplaced, overlaps, fills the sound of sheer noise, just to districate and end up in a single beat, hammering like a nail in the skull, over and over. Now add variations, a huge lanscape of obscure, life draining, heavy electronics, grating sounds, samples that avoids every human reference like a rabid dog. Noises that pierce and make your skin bleed like a million of tiny needles. The you’ll get what this “DeathShow” is about. There is quite some free space for every single sound to be distinguished, unlike more strictly noise acts like TERROR ORGAN or NAPALMED. The sound has several rather long, deep breaths necessary to inhale the complete madness that transpires from such dehumanized music. I basically consider drugs as stupid leisure for kids, mongolids and commies, but it might be quite interesting to experiment this stuff with some purple mushrooms. Beware, there are no vocals, bass or any other stricly “rock” instrument in here.
