Now we’re talking brutal fucking goregrindcore dammit! The band (don’t ask me to write the name again) is completely into a sort of ultimate annihilating goregrind in the vein of LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY, SUBLIME CADAVERIC DECOMPOSITION and other modern top notch grind heroes (sure they cover a LDOH song on this album as well, but the influence is undeniable.) Totally dehumanized, filtered, pitch shifted vocals and hyperblastsing chords that falls into pure chaos and noise make this album an heavy brick to swallow. All The melodies and canonical structures of crust/grind have been destroyed and reassembled once more to make this album extreme to the point of no return. Either you like this complete frenzy or you hate it, sounds typical statement but absolutely true. The song signed in the booklet as “Studio Song” also sounds disturbingly like a TERRORIZER track with a dozen drunkyards puking in the mic. Ehehe, might be some extra cut for fuck’s sake.

I have listened a few times to this Cd and still I have not many things to say about it. REGORGE is one of the very few Scottish Death Metal bands I heard so far. I think this is the first non-GOREROTTED release out of Dead Again and it seems as if the label has no particular prejudices towards technical, powerfully recorded American-breed Death. REGORGE sound like a band directly from Ohio, which its good share of guttural growls, mid tempo chugga chugga riffs and abundant use of tremolo picking and harmonics. Just like many of these bands, it is just that, doesn’t really move anything else but pounding, ultra-professional music, that gets droning and hypnotic on the long run. I can’t really say I don’t like this, but yet it doesn’t really stir much energy out of your fists. Reminds me much of the first FLESHGRIND Cd and the more straightforward songs of very early DYING FETUS. all songs but one strays over the 5 minute span. Just to underline their love for US scene, the cover artwork is a job done by the increasingly famous Zig. Despite the apparently young age, this album is already a full-fledged Cd of technical, consistent brutality with all the right cards (and clichès) to fit in the Modern DM scene.

I have to bow my head for this work to my countrymate The Spew, this release is really kick ass professional shit. The graphic artwork is really superb, a bit McKean-esque in feel and really depraved in an artistic way (I love the bloodstained razor on the back cover). I don’t know if LENG TCH’E got their name as a tribute to NAKED CITY (like BLOOD DUSTER) anyway musically, well, LENG’TCHE play convulse, hysterical grind/death enhanced and loaded with a super-clean production. The manic screams, groovy riffs and sudden, schizo hyperblasts give the whole album more than a simple touch of originality and variety. I have heard comparisons to HEMDALE. if we talk about the screams I agree totally, but we’re quite far from Mr. Rowe’s old bulldozer grind, LENG’TCHE is a bit looser in structure, a wild dog that experiments with crazed vocals and some ball-busting intros and samples. There’s a minute long lesson about the use of the word fuck, plus a score of other demented intros which could lead to think LEG’TCHE is just a fun-project. A close look at the lyrics (if we exclude the one which starts with “blabalbalahahahblablahhhh” I really laughed loud when I read the line) and we have some rather personal insights of the singer’s relationship with its parents and the whole scene. I have no very clear ideas about them but I am not sure I like all this BRUTAL TRUTH-like continouous lament about everything on and on (we reach the top in the song against Kid Rock). Yet Grindcore is stuff that comes from pissed-off thoughts so let it be. Just don’t think texts are as cured as BT’s, they’re quite straightforward and no-nonsense, almost a la AGATHOCLES. Superior release in every aspect, could be from the Relapse farm. Brilliant mixage, clever arrangements and lot of twisted mental illness which degenrates into complete brutality towards the end of the running time. If CSSO didn’t excite me much, this Spew releases make it at last. Fuck the Fucking Fuckers.

I don’t really know what I liked exactly in OBTEST. I generally am quite allergic to pretentious folk metal or other forms of bastardized/watered Death/Black, yet this album has some special flavour which really can’t get out of my very soul. Might be the Lithuanian lyrics, or the fact this album sounds as if OBTEST don’t necessarily want to appeal the big Black Metal crowd that can’t get into pure extreme music and need to have it sweetened with nice melodies (i.e. girls in general and all those fakes that listen to the likes of STORM etc.) OBTEST seems to be born this way, not just like a Black metal band that got nuts, it is SINCERE about what it does. There is an epic, proud feeling of ancient medieval times, an age of true feelings, a reminiscence of times lost by ages, that just make my throat thirsty for beer and my hands closed around a pewter mug. In any case the eastern accent, the epic choral voices, the melancholic chords have something different in them. I can’t assure everybody will like it but I personally did very much.

It has not been easy for me to review this album. It has equal parts of great guitar riffs, aggression, varied vocal styles (with ten thousand pounds of reverb I’d add, that was probably the reason they quote MORTUARY DRAPE anmong influences), and interesting arrangements. And then they sometimes fall into some very very boring mid tempo “thrash” riffs. Ah. As if Thrash Metal had actually anything to do with this slow chuggy stuff. Bah. The recording is perfectly fitting the band’s intentions, even if the bass is a little bit too predominant, it recreates an ancient creepy atmosphere, and the vocals often move from the prominent clean “shouts” to the whole range of “extreme” ones. The band gives its best when the music gets fast, on these parts they really get reminiscent of old school music, nostalgic and simple. I have noticed the album slows down in parts towards the end, and it gets quite spectral, that’s when HELLAMMER might get into sight. I am not sure I am the most versed in judging it but this is rather Ok once you get used to the vocals, I still wonder how many of these editors that talk about the “good ‘ole thrash metal days” were actually into the music at the time such classics were released. They seem to bring in comparisons which really sound incomprehesible at times (in this case SODOM, ASPHYX, BLASPHEMY, DEATH…), this is a good old fashioned album but nothing to do with stuff that was released in the 80’s. Nothing.
