Who doesn’t know DISGORGE by now? The mighty paladins of pathologic splattergrind, technical as fuck, ultrafast and immensely obsessed by horror, gore and guts, guts, guts every fucking where. DISGORGE are the modern day heroes of a genre which is getting more and more scoffed as “antiquated”. None is able to play as intricate and totally splatter as DISGORGE, the songs are a real holocaust of constantly evolving vocals, that span all ranges of the word “heavy” from grunts to gargles. The drumming is as sharp as a surgeon’s blade cutting through the innards, fast, complex, perfect. No other band plays like DISGORGE, this shit is unique. Oh and the GRAVE cover…. twice as fast as the one in “Into The Grave” and just as heavy…. we need more gore, more gore, more GOORE!!!

I never noticed how similar to GUT CBT can become when dropping the liquid pudding vocal effects. The guitar toning and the morbid mid tempos are really as heavy and perverse. Contrary to GUT, tho, CBT have the frightening ability to make everything neat and ordered, polished like latex and toilet ceramics, to hear these songs is like touring through a hellish circle of fetish and modern perversion. I always found ges masks, latex dressing and black gum pipes disturbing to the stomach and CBT ride this feeling with every release and a sardonic smile. The guitars on this split are hugely dense and low, and the vocals for the most time free of the aforementioned effects, assume a vibe that is similar to earlier AVULSED or BIOLICH. If you look for the heaviness of grindcore, this might not be the case, the songs are mainly slow, groovy, obsessively repetitive at times, yet really lead-heavy. If you don’t know the band this might be a good intro.

A detail that I absolutely loved when I got this promo was the small note that states “Unauthorised copying, hiring, lending, public performance and broadcasting recommended” on the back of the booklet. Visible Noise already rules dammit! Back to LABRAT, the band plays some sort of technical, ultrametallic post-grindcore with a shitload of tempo changes, vocal shifts, and an assortment of manic schizophrenia, yet maintaing the contant cruching riffing of, say, latest BRUTAL TRUTH as structural backbone. More similar to the likes of COALESCE or AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED, I have the impression that LABRAT is one of those bands which doesn’t really like to look hindisght at the grindcore genre (made in Britain as well, mind ye), projected instead towards quite experimental yet direct sonorities, like dissonant nerve curling guitars and screams to the top of the lungs. I always dealt with Englishmen music with kid gloves as there has always been some sort of different approach when they play. I do not agree completely to the label’s statement that LABRAT is so completely straight and unsubtle, I had to hear this album a few times befor actually starting digesting it, it’s more experimental and studied than a million other grind bands from all across Europe. Constantly slipping from the canonical structures this is a kind of trippy brutal grind I have started to like.

MINDFLAIR’s side starts with PRIMUS’ South Park soundtrack, a good choice to declarate the seriousness of MINFLAIR’s intentions from the beginning. The band is a bit more hard core” than RUNNING GUTS, with a gutter recording and a fair more genuinely human, messy flavour. The drums can get fast although at times their sound gets drowned beneath the mess of churning guitars that cram their songs. Vocals are alternated between the classical insane screams and grunts. Absolutely grindcore (even more classically grind” than RUNNING GUTS.) The more noteworthy thing about these songs is definitely the drum blastbeats which gets really fast. After this release in which Boris handled both guitars and bass, their old bassist came back to HQ.

Bones Brigade has decided to release this Cd on a slipcase which is fine by me, although it gives it the appearance of a promo thing (also considering it’s right above 17 minutes in length including BOTH bands works). It has to be admitted, tho, that both bands get quite clearly covered and show more or less their full potential. RUNNING GUTS plays super fast grindcore with lots of samplings, drum machine and a ultra-heavy guitar sound. Remind me a bit of MUCUPURULENT at times, although the vocals are quite different, filtered in a way similar to DECEMBER WOLVES (review above) but spewed out in a ultrafast pace. The band don’t have any restraints in using heavily samples and computer effects, between the hyperfats blasts you can perceive long spans of good ole’ mid paced goregrind with a sort of putrid vocal background and super metallic bass tripping. The last track in thier “side”, called “Barbeuck” is just a flurry of hyperfast grindcore thrown at huge speeds.

I cannot object this band has finally managed to create something quite original, and well, what I am hearing now is definitely 3 times better than the last release. The songs are continuously fast, totally orchestral, thorougly insane. The use of samples that saturate the album, the unpredictable vocals, and the eerie, obsessive droning riffs and drum programming bring me into that emotive slumber I fell when I discovered Attila’s work on “The Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” for the first time. Cold and bizarre, “Blasterpiece Theatre” is definitely DECEMBER WOLVES’ swansong of progressive avant-grade Black/Industrial/Death gone haywire offered to the modern world, a collection of images, sounds, impressions that race in front of your eyes at lightning speed, an overload of droning informations and originality which can only drive me to name the likes of ICEBURN, MR. BUNGLE, KOROVA… fast and anti-conventional to the extreme, so fast and complicated to rip your breath for the whole length, this album hit me in the right spot.
