I think I can state it without raising too much dust from the graves, that REGURGITATE are today’s leading Gore/Grind band, in which they thoroughly and proudly personify both sides of the definition: gore and grind summed up. Fast, crustily/punkishly (in a Swedish way) melodic blinding accelerations, short songs, and strong, exremely splatter interface (lyrics/artwork, although they keep it grotesque and humouristical sometimes, just read “Parade of the Decapitated Midgets”) place the band top of this year’s (2000) list of grind releases. Changes have however definitely shown since their previous full length, the songs are more defined and let’s say, differenced, thanks much to a more strictly classical grindcore/crust structure. Anyway, the common points with other more strictly punkish Swedish acts such as Bombanfall and G-Anx end rather earlier, the sound is thick, crisp and compact, the artwork is detailed and cured to the brim of madness, the vocals are heavily harmonized so to sound almost like bubbling showers (a bit less exaggerated than CBT do tho) but yes, I don’t think I am saying a big idiocy when I state the guitar patterns are fare more “core” than “metal” although sensibly more structured than before, songs remain short and to the point, and, yeah, more “mature” so to say. What strikes is the complete, impenetrable perfection of the whole product: it’s an absolutely flawless album, every angle you want to see it. I had some bad experiences with the band in the past although I consider everything completely forgotten, I hope they do as well even if I think they barely remember my name. Alrik of GENOCIDE SS and the guy in NASUM make their appearance as guest vocalists. Really bulldozing, concrete heavy gore/grind of the best sort. An album that defines an era.

I didn’t know RAHOWA was an iconoclast band, but reading the lyrics of the Cd lots of things get clear. This is White Power music, with a fairly nostalgic/epic feel, the tracks mainly deal with the quest for a better world when the European blood will dominate again, fighting the falsity of the Christian blood for some uhm…I suppose pagan origin. There is some battle inspired feel in the songs, armies of brothers fighting for the purification of their blood and so on, basically for the genre, they could be cult, and the sincere dedication to their cause is indeed respectable, although musically, they just don’t reach the sufficience for my standards. The vocalist is just plain bad, out of tine, with no power at all, if I had to choose a White Power band I’d definitely prefere BOUND FOR GLORY of BEFORE GOD by 100 times. The production is very high anyway, and there is even a SCREWDRIVER cover throwed in, very poetic… but anyway this skin music very rarely interests me musically, and RAHOWA makes no exception. Lots of ballads, lots of nostalgic lyrics, this air of a time gone by… yawn..

To call this CD a full length would have been inaccurate as

2 out of 6 tunes are covers and the whole running time is barely

27 minutes (Yeah I know “Reign in Blood” was barely

longer but fuck, that’s another band). Vocals here are a bit raspier

than on “?Rides the Moonstorm” kinda remind me

of old MORGOTH although the band itself makes it clear in the

booklet that this CD doesn’t have to be compared to their previous

work ‘couse it represents the band’s new spirit. Actually they

continued in the old-school Death vein (they definitely show it

ever since the title, but this time I am getting a bit saturated

of these bands, as I am sure on stage they aren’t able to keep

up with the fastest and heavier bands we got today (should I mention

ANGELCORPSE (RIP), KRISIUN and NILE now?) they would be pulverized.

Yet the sheer impact is probably not in their priorities as they

wants to keep it on the denim, the leather and the spikes, so

well, they still do it better than almost anybody else. DEATH

and MANTAS covers (MANTAS were pre-DEATH of course) are done great.

I have exhumed those demos from my collection and gave em a listen

right before hearing these and they’re really similar, even in

spirit so that’s the good part and well, another brick to their

image. K.K. Warslut from DESTROYER 666 is host in the latest song

“Walking Upon Damnation’s Land”.

Big, damn bastard Grind Core from USA, this is a collection of old PIG DESTROYER material, including the “Explosions in Ward 6″ CD, a split 7” with ISIS, a cover compilation, a split EP with ORCHID and the demo. PIG DESTROYER play very good, ultra-violent uncontrolled grind core with the top of the lungs screamed vocals and the typical short length of songs (30 seconds in average). They could easily be sone old school hard core band gone crazy with acid or double in speed, the music is more complex than the usual old school grind tho, more of that dissonant piercing sound of what somebody called Powerviolence. Damn essential, short-temprered, schizoid grind, fits well the Rekapse style, and like the label denands, great cover… as the Cd continues to rage and spew forth tracks, the vocals themselves gets more varied, with grunts and shifts in tune,.the last 9 tracks from the demotape are even more totally crazy grind, bordering on noise, fast furious, mincing …

PESSIMIST is a really complete band, under every aspect, even if they have not a single stand out peculiarity like the Egyptian imprint of NILE or the absolute skill and velocity of KRISIUN, they play classic, untamed Death Metal with a class and a pride few could challenge. The songs are clean, well structured purely Death metal like MORBID ANGEL or VITAL REMAINS, never blazingly fast but enriched by elegant, intricate, melodic solos. Lyrics deal also with terror and classical Death Metal topics, articulated in deep grunts and backing, high pitched screams. I like the band in the overall, Death Metal to the bone, evil, talented, professional, with that intergity that I can’t but admire, this is the ort of band who does not give up, wich they were releasing their first shit back in 88 or so to see what the labels would have said. Despite all the skill, the lack of a peculiarity might be a deterrent for some, while if you like Death metal in its purest essence, this is better then yur average VITAL REMAINS or DEICIDE record. Wich more bands played like this… ah two lyrics in particular are pointed out,in the booklet, “Tunnel Rats” is dedicated to the youth died in Viet-Nam in the 70’s, while “Wretched of the Earth” is a lyric taken wholly out of the bible… eheh cool.
