Flowing, metallic Gore Metal like nobody is able to play, an absolutely early (real) CARCASS backbone, and a fucking huge personality brings EXHUMED to the pathological Heavens or splatter and horror. Their music is not gloomy or athmospheric horror, its not the terror when you realize all your family members have been dismembered everywhere the second you turn up the lights of you living room, EXHUMED are the axe, the bones that crunh under an heavy blade that cleaves through flesh. Anyway, in the layer that stands between the skin of Goregrind and the frame of insects and putrid slash horror, there stands a thick film of catchiness, the music flows in a entirely non repetitive way…maybe my eras are insensible due to hours of sonic torment (hint hint) but EXHUMED are incredibly beguiling, one of the few bands that keep so much harmony in the whole structure of the songs that you can’t grow bored or you can even find yourself humming after a single listen at work (I do at least). They DO copy much of the whole spirit from lots of pathological bands, BUT they keep their own style in a absolutely personal form. The songs in this seven severed finger disc is way closer to Gore Metal than Slaughtercult, with vocals that sometimes tune so low as early Steer grunts.

DEAD (Ger): “Wanted for Kinky Sessions” 7″ 1994 Folter
Absolute masters of perverted Death Ggore of the finest variety. Mid paced, bestial Porn Death, DEAD released this precious urine-colour vinyl back 7 years ago. While DEAD are not the fastest band of the plant, it serves the plate of absolute perv sickness using ingredients that EROTICIDE used as well to create absolute disgusting, distorted music. Drenched in blood and wrapped by pornography and latex. I consider them one of the absolute musts as precursors to modern goregrind. Stylistically, from a artistic point of view, I would compare them to the more recent COCK AND BALL TORTURE, but also to GUT and EROTICIDE can’t be excluded. The music is classic Death with extremely distorted sounds and subhuman vocals the like those of COPROPHAGIST and some fair early CARCASS and PUNGENT STENCH sweet, nauseating vibe. Once you got the “You’ll Never Know Pleasure Until You’ve Tasted Pain” full length., this is the next stop. Also a very delightful G.G. ALLIN cover.MORTICIAN (USA/Ny): “Zombie Apocalypse” 7″ Ep 1997 Relapse
I used to get in touch with several of the Relapse singles series several years ago, with great bands such as DECEASED, GOREAPHOBIA (one of my obsessions), GENERAL SURGERY or the legendary MORTICIAN “Brutally Mutilated” and “Mortal Massacre” EPs. For some obscure reasons I thought they were not going to release other singles in the future, as they almost never show up in bands bios.. Well I got this MORTICIAN single up in Sweden and I was darn pleased, as my seven inch collector lust was finely satisfied by this MORTICIAN 7″. Here you find the first 4 tracks with relative great intros, excerpted from the CD with the same name. Relatively useless if you ask me though nice to have. The cover artwork is the classic work from Benscoter, while the music, ah the music… it’s MORTICIAN man, one of the only bands in the world that could use drum machine with style without sounding like FEAR FACTORY, that could keep amazingly fast paces coupled with guttural vocals that almost sound like metal grinding against stone, the lowest tuned guitar sound in a real orgasmic poetry of torment and utter death. MORTICIAN are masters in what they do, and what they do is damn Brutal. A classic.PEST (Fin): “Towards the Bestial Armageddon” 7″ Ep 1998 Fudgeworthy
Let’s talk frankly, when you get a seven inch from a Finnish band with a great cover artwork made by Moyen himself and with a title such as “Towards the Bestial Armageddon” you can’t but expect to hear a raw chaotic bestiality in the vein of BEHERIT. On this prospect I was completely fucked up because the band doesn’t even fairly remember the Gods of Finnish blasphemy. I don’t know why so many friends of mine were so thrilled by this band, apart from the packaging and the very crude recording, this band doesn’t move my attention for a single fucking second. They’re extremely basic and unmemorable, as they don’t even barely distinct from another thousands of late year death metal bands. The songs are structured over a regular thread made typically by a tedious, monotone riff that repeats over and over along the usual high pitched screams. I must admit I am deluded even though I can concede to them that they really sound like a band from the early nineties. Killer imagery but it’s not enough to build up a good product. 500 limited copies on gold vynil for those who care.

Stephen Hawking explains in “A Brief History of Tim”e: “We could still imagine that there is a set of laws that determines events completely for some supernatural being, who could observe the present state of the universe without disturbing it. However, such models of the universe are not of much interest to us mortals. It seems better to employ the principle known as Occam’s razor and cut out all the features of the theory which cannot be observed.”. Apart from this prelude, RAZOR OF OCCAM is an Australian Black Metal band as well. When I say these magical words combined, one should figure out what kind of incredible bands Australia has blessed us with in this genre in the past. Australia stands to Black Metal like Brazil is recently standing for Death Metal. They’re TRUE Black Metal in a world jam-packed of posers. Bands with such a intense, intellectual, frighteningly violent approach to music such has DESTROYER 666, BESTIAL WARLUST or SADISTIK EXECUTION just are the pinpoint of the whole great Black Metal scene there. While Scandinavia black metal lost all its shine in the last eight years, Australian bands like this make me feel things are improving for this music. I am a complete freak about Australian Black metal and RAZOR OF OCCAM are a fucking dazzling example of unbridled ferocity the way only these bands are able to express. They’re fast as fuck and have not a single chop of useless melody. Violence in its peak of expression, simple, straightforward, obsessive guitar work crowned by a perfect crude sound. Too bad it’s just 2 songs. It is limited to 500 copies so feel lucky if you get one. Oh I’ll skip to discuss the packaging because the cover is one of the worst I have ever seen inside of one of the worst layouts ever. Don’t get mislead by this. One aspect of my perverted tastes people often miss out, is that I like Hard Core, at least I like old school hard core one million times better than heavy metal, which I loathe, be it clear. SCAPEGRACE is a good Hate Core band, halfway between the old school and the new one, with a rather basic guitar approach, pounding slam guitars and good shrieking screams. As said before, the songs could be a little more compact but I think when you play this music this is not the most fundamental of things, as it’s in point of fact what differentiate the band from 90% of the modern metallish new school hardcore. Lyrics are good sense, whereas rather cryptic, and the overall layout is brilliant. This EP is rather old but I think the band has released so far only another split EP with CONNIPTION.SEVERE TORTURE (Hol): “Pray for Nothing” 7″ Ep Damnation
I hate when bands are better known cause they include members from other groups and not for their identity but let this be known, this band features two ex CENTURIAN members (bass player and singer taking its position on drums), and also let it be known, CENTURIAN is my favourite Death Metal bands from the last 3 years. Now that should somewhat prejudice my decision while reviewing the disc, although that will not be the case. The only detail that relate the two bands are the marvellous anti-Christian lyrics (“”You are nothing and never will be for you are jesus”). While lyrics are halfway between DEICIDE, CENTURIAN and IMMOLATION, the music is genuine American Death Metal, with vocals shifting towards a CANNIBAL CORPSE of the early Barnes era, but with a more frantic drumming. I guess you could say “Tomb of the Mutilated” at a first listen, but faster, relaying more on sheer impact and articulate riffs than gloom and doom splatter, sort of REGURGITATION meet DEEDS OF FLESH. To be noted, the band has a new CD out as I write these lines and is touring intensively, knowing the band whose ribs were broken to give it life, the concerts should be killer.
