Hmm.. is this a revival tribute or what? The seventies push and kick through this definitely Punk wax in a very ehm… undefined way… I am not sure if I start to see a sense in these songs but its more about noise/experimentation that concrete Death Grind. They have a very palpable punk/rock/noise thread thorough them which I suppose mark them as the new era in extreme music right? A band that should be signed on Relapse because they’re damn discordant and “smoking grind” right? Well maybe I am too much conservative but if I need that kind of sensations, I’d prefer some good new school NUCLEAR DEATH to create a soundscape for my schizophrenias.

I wish I could say the CSSO side is entertaining, at least funny, but somewhat is just irritating my nerves. I tend to appreciate how Japanese love to experiment stretching the boundaries of sound with tendrils of schizoid energy, most of the times they perfectly succeed in creating an upheaval of rumors and symphonies so damn bizarre to hold your nose nailed to the deck. But when I listened to this track I just wasn’t able to find the right angle to view this thing. Grind core they’re no more, of this you can be certain. More of a mixture of Santana, a soundtrack to some stoner movie from the 60’s/70’s, and average Punk band, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, and Hardcore vocals. I earnestly wonder the reason why I should like this song. Apart from some screams that get lost into wawas, it has nothing to do with extremities let alone grind. But well I guess they tried something different so as long as they won’t abuse of it too much, they got my blessing for this time.

Abbasso l’armonia, evviva i re dell’Horror.
  • GROSSMEMBER (Pol): “Make Victims not Love” split 7″ Ep with COCK AND BALL TORTURE (Ger) 1999 No Weak Shit

As for GROSSMEMBER, they have a straighter approach with clearly cut structures, a definitely crusty feeling which lacks in CBT, lots of pounding parts

which almost remind me of very old school Swedish Death Metal (a definition I am sure grindcore purists would loathe but fuck off). GENERAL SURGERY,

COPROPHAGIST and a bit of TERRORIZER in the slower parts comes to mind. A great concoction of Crust and Goregrind.

COCK AND BALL TORTURE are damn vulgar, they’ve taken the Porngore concept to the very limits together with some other great bands such as LIBIDO AIRBAG or

ANAL BRITH. They are nauseatingly raw, with impossibly effected vocals over a chaotic grinding instrument mesh. I think I could theoretically put them

inside a triangle delimited by REGURGITATE, DEAD and MEAT SHITS with slamming and pounding utterly low guitar riffing, from a stylistical point of view. I

don’t feel embarrassed to admit I am always looking for the heaviest of the dirties bands around and this is a real jewel by that perspective. Sadly, the

recording is absolutely lacking; even if the genre doesn’t demand a crystal clear approach, thankfully I’d add, the songs sometimes lose volume as if the

master was taken from a overdubbed tape…

  • PROFANATICA (USA/Ny): “Weeping In Heaven” split 7″ with IMPIETY (Sgp) Ep 1999 Samhain

When somebody asks me about Black Metal, they usually figure the circus of ludicrous, laughable Norwegian bands suck as MAYHEM and EMPEROR and the mile

spanning wagon of trend they brought behind them. Somewhat those bands pretended to be chilling, frightening, they even ended up pretending to be the only

ones able to play Black metal. Despite the meaning Black Metal might have developed along the years, the best Black Metal bands ever didn’t come from

Scandinavia at all. Much like Australian and Americans are showing that we Europeans are not able to be fierce and blasphemous as much as they are able to

(name me one, just one band that could compare to BESTIAL WARLUST or SADISTIK EXECUTION from Europe…). Me, a Death Metal and Gore Grind elitist, declare to

love Black Metal to the very essence of it. But if you ask me to trace its roots back I’d surely not name DARK THRONE’s “A blaze in the Northern Sky” (though

excellent material for sure, unquestionably the best they ever created), but rather some SODOM, SARCOFAGO, IMPIETY or PROFANATICA. Paul Ledney, the mind

behind PROFANATICA (which was also the man who baptized INCANTATION) and HAVOEJ, gave birth to among the most obscene and immoral bands in the world.

Cornering legendary shows then they smeared the bible with sperm and burned the holy icon of Mary to a crisp, their music was so fucking lacerating, so damn

obscene to cuddle your skin like rancid milk. While DARK THRONE were supposed to be “The Fist in the face of god”, PROFANATICA shitted in its mouth, covered

it in a nightdress of piss and cum and mocked his creation with every song. Kids, I just wished you had found a different name than Black Metal to describe

your child’s play. Anyway, there are three significant songs on this side, One taken from a rehearsal from 1991, and two from the demo ’92. Sound is rough

and crispy and perfectly fits the mood of the band. Spine chilling Black of the finest sort.

Terrorist Grindcore Black Metal with some evocative inspirations could vaguely describe this previously unreleased song… martial and essential, consisting

of few great guitar riffs (does a Black Metal song needs anything else?) from a band that exist since a decade. IMPIETY released this song in 1996. Could

have been a single all by itself even if it was not backed up by the American band above. The vocals are a perfect equilibrium between Death and Black Metal,

with some epic inspiring keyboards in the end, a bit gross but that’s the spirit.
