ALTAR (Hol): “Provoke” CD 1998 Displeased

High energy Thrash Death Metal with that street level aggression typical of the best Hard Core bands. When the Thrash Death label comes out one, me included,

usually don’t expect much more than a medium level force, but with ALTAR it’s something different. The vocals are really damn killer, clearly understandable

yet roaring like the best of Death Grunts. Musically the whole production is excellent, while their lyrics maintain their typical straight in your face

hatred towards religion approach. No band that I remember has such a neat, explicit pronunciation against God and religion which makes me definitely smile.

Although never overly fast, the music attains to high voltage moshing slams and articulated, long solos. A band with a strong identity and definitely a beast

    for killer shows on stage.

Immature and boring, that’s how I would describe AL SIRAT’s music. Effectively not immature by a technical perspective, but immature in their approach to a

music like Death Metal. The feeling I got while listening this CD is to have heard the arrangements a thousand times when I was in school. They sound like a

mid to high technical thrash metal band with some pretences at the Death Metal world when it comes to vocals, which are irrevocably paired by some late

METALLICA laments. Skilful maybe, but the music decomposes easily lacking of the glue of a real identity. The music falls apart under your ears, leaving you

with the impression to be listening to some easily forgettable radio music. Could really be some proficient adolescents at their first approach to heavy

music. All in all I don’t even see an immediate chance of getting better as they really are nothing more than smoke.

Well yeah, certainly an excellent blend of Black and Death metal. Though far from the perfect crude concoction of BELPHEGOR, AETERNUS is more of a fast,

original and fierce Death Metal band with the right amount of Black Metal creepiness into it to create a malignant feeling over a strong backbone which can

be traced even (though sadly not for the entire light of the disc) to CENTURIAN or BEHEMOTH and other Death Metal discharges. It’s a real pity after the

first pounding minutes the disc falls more and more into a stronger and stronger Black Metal (old Norwegian Black Metal a la early IMMORTAL) mood

crisscrossed here and there by ballads and stuff. recurrently however the band springs out of its slumber and gets back into attack. I am not exactly sure if

I like the overlll effect but this is a band which as a good spin generally talking. I should get a few more listens maybe. Production is (too much) clean

and accurate which somewhat spoils some of the filth which would have added lot of attractiveness to the album but well. So what.

  • SCRAMBLED DEFUNCTS (Rus): “Catacomb Abattoir” Cd 1998 Relics

    RECENSORE: Unknown

    VOTO: -1,00/10

This band is unknown to me ; they come from cold Russia and together with their mates Abosranie Bogom ( porngoregrind coprophagist shit-addicted ) demonstrates how extreme death metal is growing-up in this land , even though , there are many economics problems . They play usual U.S. brutal-death , simple to listen and full of gore lyrics . But the main problem is that they completely lack in originality , cause , “Catacomb abttoir” is the perfect mix of old Suffocation/ Dying Fetus/ Pyrexia masterpieces . However they shows us good skills ability and a ferox attitude, so , the songs are quite nice and absolutely never boring .

Drums isn’t very complex , but well arranged ; guitar sound is pretty interesting and vocals are common deep growls .

    Give’em a chance , I’m sure next time they’ll improve their originality !
